I was just having a conversation in my pool on the 4th Of July with my friend Charlie Capen on the subject of zombies and decided to expand on that topic for the masses.
We were discussing why zombies are and have been so popular within our culture. Our conclusion was that it is because zombies are a very tangible fear. Inevitably, they were once human, so our minds are able to grasp the sheer notion that we could possibly rise from the dead with a savage thirst for man flesh.
Author Max Brooks has even gone so far as to pen two great books on the subject: The Zombie Survival Guide, and World War Z(which is rumored to become a film). In these books Brooks speaks of zombies as being real occurrences. It is quite humorous, and terrifying all at the same time.
I have even semi-convinced my girlfriend that it is necessary that I purchase weapons and a shitload of ammunition in preparation for the undead flood.
I personally wouldn’t mind a zombie invasion. I certainly do not condone or wish violence upon our world, but it would be pretty rad having an excuse to barrel down an abandoned freeway in some gas sucking 1989 Ford Bronco fully armed picking off any undead unfortunate to cross my path.
Plus we need a freak disaster like this to snap us back into what’s important. Survival, progression and family. I think if a wave of zombies eliminated the state of Arkansas people would quickly forget about Jon and Kate plus 8, and start stockpiling on bullets to protect their loved ones.
I want to hear your thoughts on the subject? What are your favorite books, and film on the subject?
My personal favs captured on celluloid are:
Original Dawn Of The Dead
Shawn Of The Dead
Planet Terror
28 Days Later
Let’s discuss and also include any survival tips and tactics.

You haven't been to Arkansas in a while . . . the wave of zombies has already begun!
